The NRB Network (NRBN) is a Non-Profit organization operating under IRS 501c3 status, and a Non-Commercial Educational (NCE) Public Interest Obligation (PIO) channel under the FCC regulations.
As a NCE-PIO channel the NRBN is prohibited from selling or airing commercial "spot announcements," paid programming from businesses / individuals, or raising money for any purpose except the station's own expenses.
Other non-profit organizations, airing programming on the NRB Network, are allowed to raise funds to cover their expenses as long as the fundraising is not a substantial portion of, or the sole purpose of, the program.
The NRBN receives its funding for operations from three sources.
1. Program Underwriting: program producers may choose to place qualified programming on the NRBN and provide for the underwriting cost of the program. This is only eligible to non-profit organizations and the program must meet the NCE qualifying requirements.
2. Program Sponsorship: corporate sponsors may underwrite programming through donations, grants, or other gifts. Sponsors may receive on-air acknowledgement of their sponsorship through spots. These spots must meet the NCE qualifying requirements.
3. Viewer Support: vital to the success of the NRBN to meet the challenges of bringing quality programming to you, is your support. The support of viewers like you is the most important funding we get.
