MISSION: God at Work, Faith in Action
Airing Thursday nights on the NRB Network (NRBN), Mission: God at Work, Faith in Action is a series of compelling adventures that take you and your family on a journey across the globe. Series hosts are Steve Saint, the son of legendary Nate Saint who was one of five missionaries killed in Ecuador in 1956, and documentary filmmaker and journalist Dianne Becker, who also produced the series.
Arline Bell of the NRBN programming department says that "Dianne Becker is not only talented as a producer and on-air host, but she has a tremendous heart for missions and brings the mission field right to our viewers' homes."
Becker hoped this series would have a wider audience than most films shot for mission agencies, which she said are generally seen by only a limited number of supporters and church groups before they’re shelved. “I really had a desire to get them into a broadcast medium… out into a TV-watching public,” she said. Becker achieved her goal, and this series is now available nationwide, via NRBN, on DirectTV’s TOTAL CHOICE package on Channel 378.
Awarded the Silver Crown Award for Best Series at the 2004 ICVM (International Christian Visual Media) Crown Awards, Mission was hosted on location at Steve Saint’s Indigenous Peoples Technology and Education Center (I-TEC) near Ocala, Florida. I-TEC helps native churches overcome the technological and educational barriers limiting their growth.
“The reason we selected this series for the NRB Network,” Arline says, “was because we thought it would be beneficial for our viewers to get an idea of what people are doing around the world to reach others for Christ. By watching this program, families can see from the comfort of their living rooms what other believers sacrifice to fulfill the Great Commission.”
Stories you’ll see on MISSION run the gamut. Here are just some of the adventures you’ll embark on: join global missionaries from World Team as they journey to the Yali tribe, formerly dreaded headhunters, in Papua, Indonesia; follow two missionaries on a trek to the streets of Brazil to feed, treat, and teach the “forgotten children,” whose only home are the dusty streets of one of the world’s largest cities; join “the Flying Preacher” David Caskey in the Bahamas on his evangelistic and mercy flights distributing New Testaments, preaching, or flying sick people to hospitals; and marvel at the heartwarming interaction between Steve Saint’s family and the Waodani tribe of Ecuador. The Waodanis were formerly called the Aucas – the tribe responsible for the death of Steve’s father.
The series features stories from various overseas mission agencies, such as Pioneers, SEND, World Team, and Africa Inland Mission. These awesome stories of God’s miracle-working power will bring your faith to a higher level.
Producer Becker says she’s thrilled to be a part of this project. “It’s just been a real honor to be able to…pull together videos from these stories that come from almost every continent,” she said.
The MISSION series will open your heart as you see how God is moving around the world!
